Today, the university runs degree programmes in 67 fields of academic specialisation in 11 faculties and a College of Medicine. Some of these courses enjoy interim accreditation pending from the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
In 2012, the university got a capital grant to help it upgrade the Library, Faculties of Social Sciences and Arts, and the old Education campus. Engineering equipment worth millions of naira was also procured from the fund.
