About Ekiti State University
The history of Ekiti State University (EKSU) goes back to 1979, when a gubernatorial candidate in the then Ondo State, Chief M. A. Ajasin made the establishment of the institution one of his campaign promises.
It was primarily established as Obafemi Awolowo University in 1982, before changing its name to Ondo State University in 1985 and finally to the present name of Ekiti State University in September 2011. In its early years, the institution remained highly underfunded with most courses being funded from public treasury.
Today, the university runs degree programmes in 67 fields of academic specialisation in 11 faculties and a College of Medicine. Some of these courses enjoy interim accreditation pending from the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
In 2012, the university got a capital grant to help it upgrade the Library, Faculties of Social Sciences and Arts, and the old Education campus. Engineering equipment worth millions of naira was also procured from the fund.
