According to the Bayelsa State Government, the program for the empowerment of women and young people is intended to assist 5,000 small- and medium-sized company owners in the state’s eight local government areas.
210 men and women in the 105 wards of the state are covered by the empowerment scheme, which costs N200,000 each, according to the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mr. Ayibaina Duba.
Duba stated that the Governor Douye Diri administration intends to expand the markets of over 5,000 SME operators at the conclusion of its first term while speaking in Yenagoa during the disbursement and biometric capture of beneficiaries from the Ogbia Local Government Area.
According to our estimates, we will have served approximately 5,000 beneficiaries by the time this program is completed for the first term, and all of them must be engaged in business or commerce.

You can’t expect every business or endeavor to be a complete success, but we think that if we can reach 5,000 or more beneficiaries, a greater number of individuals will return to thank God for their accomplishments.
The purpose of the biometric capture, according to Duba, is to prevent beneficiaries from trying to join future batches of the program after getting their funds, as “we want it to reach as wide as possible.”
He emphasized that there are no political considerations in the selection of beneficiaries since the sole need that entitles people to the fund is to operate a business. He said that the initiative was started by the Diri’s government to strengthen the state’s economy through SMEs.
“This specific scheme is interesting because it is targeted at those who are active in small enterprises; it’s not just for everybody,” he said. It is intended for those who work in a related field, such as fashion design, welding, construction, mechanics, or any other occupation.
The government is attempting to ensure that they receive assistance in some form by providing them with a financial incentive, such as cash so that they can expand their enterprises.
While instructing the beneficiaries to utilize the money wisely, the commissioner also mentioned that they would be properly supervised by a team established by the government to guarantee that the empowerment’s goals were met.
He emphasized that the administration had been a responsible and responsive one from the start, identifying and resolving citizens’ issues with the few resources at its disposal.
